The Edstrom Water BuddyTM Drinking Valve has a very low actuation force. It is easily operated by the smallest rodents or birds. The valve is constructed of brass and stainless steel with rugged silicone seals. Water Buddy is not recommended for use with continuous exposure to sunlight. Operation of the Water BuddyTM To fill the bottle, flip up the top of the cap, and fill with clean water. If your animal does not consume much water in a day, it is not necessary to fill the bottle all the way to the top. However, the water level should always be kept above the "REFILL LEVEL" line on the bottle. Do not allow the water level to go all the way down to the valve, as this last bit of water is dispensed very slowly and may frustrate your animal or bird. If you use medication in your water, be sure that it is thoroughly mixed and dissolved in the water before you fill the bottle. If any crystals or powder remains undissolved in the water, you risk having the particles becoming lodged in the drinking valve, causing it to leak. See instructions below on how to repair a leaking valve. After filling the bottle, gently actuate the stem with your finger until the water begins flowing from the valve. See Figure 1. Check your Water Buddy at least twice a day to confirm that your animals are consuming the normal amount of water. Refill the bottle daily. Clean and rinse at least weekly or more frequently if medication is being used in the water. NOTE: The Edstrom Drinking Valve will not operate if the cap is sealed completely on the bottle. For this reason, the cap has a vent hole. Do not replace the cap with a solid cap that might seal the bottle. Turning the bottle upside down will cause water to spill out. (See Figure 1) Mounting the Water BuddyTM on the cage Use the mounting spring to secure the bottle to your cage (see Figure 1). Locate the bottle at a height that the animal or bird can easily reach. See Figure 2. Be sure to locate the bottle so the valve is not close to the bedding (rodents will sometimes attempt to insert bedding into the drinking valve causing it to be lodged open, and drip continuously.) In bird cages the bottle can be mounted near the floor of the cage or near a perch where they can stand while drinking. Once the bottle has been mounted to the cage using the mounting spring, it can easily be removed by simply pulling the spring down and over the bottom of the bottle. The bottle can then be easily lifted out for refilling or cleaning as required. The spring can remain attached to the cage, ready for easy replacement of the bottle. See Figure 3. (Two springs are used to mount the 32 oz bottle). Training your bird or animal to use the Edstrom Drinking Valve Most animals and birds learn to use the drinking valve very quickly. Simply activate the valve with your finger while they are watching. The few drops of water that remain inside the barrel of the valve serve to attract them to try to get more. This is most effective if the Water Buddy is located in the vicinity of where their old water source was in the cage, and if they have been without water for a few hours. After removing the old source of water, it is critical that you watch the animals carefully to confirm they have adapted to using the drinking valve. Make sure they are consuming some water, i.e. the water level in the bottle drops. Maintenance of your Water BuddyTM The Water Buddy is constructed of rugged PVC plastic, and can be washed on the top shelf of the dishwasher. Remove the lid first. If the drinking valve should drip, the problem is probably caused by a piece of sediment getting inside the valve and lodging on the o-ring seal in the valve. The valve can be disassembled and cleaned, and if required, the o-ring can easily be replaced. See Figure 4.

La válvula para beber agua de Edstrom (Edstrom Water Buddy Drinking Valve) se activa con muy poca fuerza. Las aves más pequeñas o los más pequeños de los roedores la pueden hacer funcionar. La válvula está fabricada de acero inoxidable y bronce amarrillo con resistentes sellos de silicón. No se recomienda el Water Buddy para uso en donde este expuesto constantemente al sol. Funcionamiento del Water BuddyTM La botella se puede llenar tanto antes, como después de haberla montado en la jaula. Para llenar la botella, levante la parte de arriba de la tapa, y llénela con agua limpia. Si su animal no consume mucha agua en un día, no es necesario llenar la botella hasta arriba. Sin embargo, el nivel de agua se debe mantener siempre arriba de la línea de "NIVEL DE RE-LLENO" en la botella. No permita que el nivel del agua baje hasta la válvula, ya que esta última parte de agua sale muy lentamente y puede frustrar a su animal o a su ave. Después de llenar la botella, haga funcionar suavemente el vástago con su dedo para que el agua empiece a fluir de la válvula. Vea la ilustración 1. Revise su Water Buddy por lo menos dos veces al día para asegurarse de que sus animales estén consumiendo la cantidad normal de agua. Rellene la botella a diario. Lave y enjuague la botella por lo menos una vez a la semana o más frecuentemente si pone medicamento en el agua. NOTA: La Edstrom Drinking Valve no puede funcionar si la tapa está sellada completamente en la botella. Por esta razón, la tapa tiene un orificio de desahogo. No reemplace la tapa por una tapa sin orificio que pueda sellar la botella. El voltear la botella al revés causa que se derrame agua. (Vea la ilustración 1.) Montaje del Water BuddyTM en la jaula Use el resorte para montar de acero inoxidable para asegurar la botella a la jaula (vea la ilustración 1). Coloque la botella a una altura en la cual su animal o su ave la pueda alcanzar fácilmente. Vea la ilustración 2. Asegúrese de colocar la botella a una altura en la cual la válvula no esté muy cerca del piso de la jaula (los roedores a veces intentan poner virutas de madera del piso o partículas de alimento dentro de la válvula causando que estas se atoren, y con esto la válvula puede gotear constantemente). En las jaulas de aves la botella se puede montar cerca del piso de la jaula o cerca del perchero donde se pueden parar mientras beben agua. Una vez que se haya montado la botella en la jaula usando el resorte para montar, se puede quitar fácilmente, sólo estire el resorte hacia abajo y por encima de la base de la botella. Después de hacer esto la botella se puede levantar fácilmente para rellenarla o para limpiarla según se necesite. El resorte puede permanecer fijo en la jaula, listo para volver a colocar la botella con facilidad. Vea la ilustración 3. Se utilizan dos resortes para montar la botella de 32 ozas. Entrenamiento de su ave o animal para el uso de la Edstrom Drinking Valve Casi todos los animales o aves aprenden a usar la válvula para beber agua muy rápido. Simplemente active la válvula con su dedo mientras los animales lo están observando. Las pocas gotas de agua que se queden dentro del barril de la válvula sirven para atraerlos a tratar de obtener más. Esto es más eficaz si el Water Buddy se encuentra cerca de donde se localizaba la fuente de agua anterior en la jaula, y si ellos han estado sin agua por unas cuantas horas. Después de quitar la fuente de agua anterior, es indispensable que usted observe a sus animales cuidadosamente para asegurarse de que se han adaptado a usar la válvula para beber agua. Asegúrese que estén consumiendo agua, es decir que el nivel de agua se baje. Mantenimiento de su Water BuddyTM El Water Buddy está hecho con plástico PVC resistente. Quite la tapa, esta se puede lavar en la parte de arriba de una lavaplatos. Si la válvula para beber agua gotea, el problema probablemente es a causa de que un pedazo de sedimento se haya metido dentro de la válvula y se haya quedado en el sello de anillo-O en la válvula. La válvula se puede desarmar y limpiar, y si se necesita, el anillo-O se puede reemplazar fácilmente. Vea la ilustración 4.
