"The Edstrom system has made cavy care much easier, allowing more time for grooming my long haired beauties."

Susan Coates of Cincinnati, Ohio, raises a variety of guinea pigs including Peruvian satins, Peruvians, Silkie satins, and Silkies. She has been raising cavies for four years and has approximately 100 of these creatures. "I started with one pet and then discovered the cavy shows and I was hooked," says Susan. All of Susan's cavies are housed in wire cages with solid floors and bedded with pellet pine. The cages are stacked three high. Her show animals have individual cages that measure 24" x 18", while her breeders are housed in 24" x 24" cages with 2-3 animals per cage. Pregnant sows, and those that have just delivered, are housed individually in 24" x 18" cages.
Susan has been using an Edstrom automated watering system for two months. She uses storage tanks for the water supply and 3/16" flex-tubing for the distribution piping. Susan's guinea pigs drink from the Vari-flo valve, but she also has some of the guinea pig valves with stainless steel stem guard. She cleans her watering system weekly, and checks the operation of the drinking valves on a daily basis. According to Susan, "The Edstrom system has made my cavy care much easier, allowing more time for grooming my long haired beauties. I also feel much more comfortable going to overnight shows because I know my animals have a constant, clean source of water. It is much easier for my family to take care of them when I am off showing the cavies."
